Jets Waive Kenwin Cummings After Special Teams Gaffe

New York Jets linebacker Kenwin Cummings became the second player at his position inside the AFC East to be shown the door this week as a result of a special teams mistake, joining Bobby Carpenter of the Miami Dolphins.

According to Rich Cimini of ESPN New York, Cummings was waived today after being found responsible for the Denver Broncos recovering an onside kick during last week's 24-20 road win.

Considering that Jets special teams coach Mike Westhoff has a zero tolerance policy for mistakes on special teams, this move should come as no surprise. In fact, Westhoff even hinted that Carpenter should have been cut by the Dolphins before they fired their special teams coordinator, John Bonamego, the day after Miami's special teams gave away 21 points in a 41-14 loss to the New England Patriots on a Monday night in Miami.
