Bruce Bochy: Cody Ross Starting Over Jose Guillen 'a Baseball Decision'

Cody RossARLINGTON, Texas -- Giants manager Bruce Bochy said that Cody Ross was going to be the Giants postseason starting right fielder over Jose Guillen because of Guillen's injury and ineffectiveness, despite reports that Guillen was left off the roster because he was the subject of an investigation for receiving HGH.

The Giants have not made any comment on reports about HGH, but Bochy indicated that was not the reason the Giants played Ross, who ended up becoming a postseason star and winning MVP of the NLCS.

"It was a baseball decision," Bochy said before Game 3 of the World Series on Saturday. "Cody was swinging the bat very well. He was getting some spot starts there even though he was struggling earlier (in September). You could see him coming on. More than anything, it was evident that Guillen had a neck issue. He admitted it. He was trying to be a warrior going out there, but he wasn't perforning like he could because of the neck issue. That decision was made as we were setting up the roster that we didn't feel that Jose was 100 percent with the treatment. Cody Ross was going to be on the roster and starting in right field."
