Byron Mullens, the 24th overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, will soon be suiting up for the D-League's Tulsa 66ers, it was announced by the Oklahoma City Thunder late Thursday. Mullens' assignment, which will be the 18th time an NBA team has sent a player to their D-League affiliate thus far this season, comes just a few days after his Oklahoma City Thunder recalled rookie Cole Aldrich from the 66ers.The 21-year-old Mullens is no stranger to the D-League, having spent 27 games in Tulsa last season as a rookie after declaring for the NBA Draft following his freshman season in college. The rookie made significant strides last season, too, averaging 15.1 points and 7.5 rebounds while getting the significant playing time he needed on his way to adjusting to the NBA-style of play.
After again receiving little playing time again this season -- appearing in just five of the Thunder's games this season -- Mullens should be able to put the things he's learned since his last D-League stint to good use while running the same system the big club runs.
