Former Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, who died in July, is one of 12 candidates who will be up for election to the Hall of Fame by the Expansion Era Committee at this year's Winter Meetings in Orlando, Fla.Steinbrenner is joined by former players Vida Blue, Davey Concepcion, Steve Garvey, Ron Guidry, Tommy John, Al Oliver, Ted Simmons and Rusty Staub, one of his former managers, Billy Martin, and fellow executives Pat Gillick and Marvin Miller on the ballot.
The Expansion Era Committee is a 16-person panel formed this year as part of the Veterans Committee to vote on Hall of Fame candidates who made their greatest contributions to the game from 1973 on. The Golden Era Committee will vote on candidates who made their greatest contributions from 1947-72 next year, followed by the Pre-Integration Era Committee in 2012 on candidates who made their greatest contributions from 1871-1946.
