VANCOUVER -- You can add the name Dan Hamhuis to the head-injury casualty list."He had a concussion, so he is out until further notice," Vancouver Canucks coach Alain Vigneault.
The Vancouver defenseman was injured in the third period of Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Anaheim Ducks as he received a blindside hit from behind by Ryan Getzlaf. Hamhuis was retrieving the puck in his own zone and shooting it up the ice when he turned towards the boards and Getzlaf crunched him into the glass.
No penalty was called on the play. After the hit, Hamhuis lay motionless for about five minutes and the went to the dressing room and did not return.
Hamhuis, 28, is the third key Canucks defenseman to go down with an injury recently. Keith Ballard is out for about a month after suffering a knee injury Monday against Ottawa and Alex Edler's recovery from back surgery will not be complete before the playoffs.
But as Hamhuis exits the lineup, Sami Salo is re-entering. Salo, who has yet to play in the NHL this season after suffering a torn Achilles tendon while playing a form of floor hockey in his native Finland, will suit up Saturday when the Calgary Flames visit.
