Francois Beauchemin Traded to Anaheim for Joffrey Lupul, Prospect

All eyes are on the Toronto Maple Leafs during the trade deadline season, and over the past couple of years the name everyone keeps watching is defenseman Tomas Kaberle. On Wednesday, general manager Brian Burke made a significant move on his blue line, only it wasn't Kaberle leaving town. It was veteran rearguard Francois Beauchemin who was traded to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for forward Joffrey Lupul, defensive prospect Jake Gardiner and a conditional 2013 draft pick.

For Beauchemin, it will be his second stint with the Ducks as he spent parts of four seasons with the club between 2005 and 2009, helping them to their first Stanley Cup win during the 2006-07 campaign. He signed as a free agent with Toronto prior to the 2009-10 season, scoring seven goals to go with 31 assists over the past season-and-a-half.

In return, Toronto gets the 27-year-old Lupul as he continues to assemble an impressive collection of team-issued luggage, now playing for his fourth different team in his seven-year career. Injuries and a blood infection have limited him to just 49 games over the past two seasons, but he's shown the ability to score between 20-25 goals when he's in the lineup.
