John Fox Expected to Interview for Broncos' Head Coaching Job on Monday

The Broncos list of coaching candidates has been expanded to include former Carolina coach John Fox, who is expected to interview for the job on Monday.

New York Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell and Eric Studesville, who took over as the Broncos' interim coach for the final month of the season after the Dec. 6 firing of Josh McDaniels, became the first candidates to be interviewed by team brass on Sunday.

Fewell joined the Giants before last season after serving as an interim coach for Buffalo in 2009. He spent the previous three seasons as Buffalo's defensive coordinator. Addressing their defensive weaknesses is one of the priorities in the Broncos' coaching search, which is being aided by a consulting firm.

Studesville went 1-3 after being elevated from running backs coach to interim coach in place of McDaniels. It was his first experience as a head coach after 14 years in the NFL as an assistant.

The Broncos took time out from last Wednesday's news conference introducing John Elway as the team's executive vice president in charge of football operations to publicly thank Studesville for the grace and professionalism he exhibited as the interim coach under difficult circumstances. If he doesn't get the permanent job, there's a chance he could be retained as a member of the incoming coach's staff.

Others expected to be interviewed this week by a search committee that includes Elway, owner Pat Bowlen, club president Joe Ellis and general manager Brian Xanders are Jacksonville offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter and Houston offensive offensive coordinator Rick Dennison, a former Broncos assistant.

Charley Casserly of CBS Sports also reported that an executive search firm has been retained by the Broncos to help them find a new coach.

Fox was let go by the Panthers after Carolina finished 2-14, the worst record in the league this season. However, Fox had a track record of overall success during his nine years in Carolina, including guiding the Panthers to the Super Bowl following the 2003 season. The Panthers lost narrowly to New England in the title game.
