Tulsa didn't look very far to find a replacement for Todd Graham, who left for Pittsburgh last week.Assistant coach Bill Blankenship, who has been with the team for the past four seasons, was named Graham's successor during a press conference on Friday.
"Today is Bill Blankenship day," Tulsa athletic director Bubba Cunningham said to kick off the news conference. "This is a tremendous day for the University of Tulsa and Tulsa athletics."
Blankenship (right) was a three-year letterman and quarterback at Tulsa during the 1975-79 seasons, but his claim to fame had been a 14-year run with Union High School (Tulsa, Okla.), which included three state titles.
Blankenship coached both wide receivers and running backs during his time as an assistant with the Golden Hurricane. During three of his seasons, Tulsa had one of the most prolific passing offenses in the country.
